UK entry formalities for stays of less than 6 months can be completed directly online. You don’t need to make an appointment at the UK embassy, just obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation ETA. Here is the list of countries authorized to request an ETA.
The online application takes just a few minutes to complete if you have your travel documents. You need to enter your personal details to obtain your ETA. Payment is made online once the form has been validated. You will then receive confirmation of your ETA by email.
How long does it take to process an ETA application?
As soon as the payment is validated, the ETA request is immediately processed. Processing is computerized and takes just a few minutes. As soon as the request has been processed, a reply is sent by e-mail.
In some cases, the response does not arrive within the initial timeframe of a few minutes. The English authorities give themselves 3 days to validate the ETA request. We recommend that you apply for your ETA for England at least 3 days before departure for the UK.
How long is an ETA valid for?
The validity period is 2 years. You can travel to the UK as often as you like during these two years. ETA authorization for the UK is linked to the passport presented at the time of the initial application. If your stay in the UK is longer than 6 months, you will need to apply for a visa for England.
